Thanks to a dear friend, I’ve been creating vision boards for the past six or seven years. What started as a fun and reflective activity has now become an annual tradition shared with two of my closest friends. The three of us have continued to gather each year, and each session feels like a fresh start. Every time we meet, I find myself inspired, not only by the boards we create but also by the conversations they spark. These moments together are filled with laughter, hope, and a shared sense of curiosity about the future. Each board becomes a tangible representation of our dreams and goals—a visual reminder of the direction we hope to take. For the past couple of years, I’ve even talked about hosting a vision board workshop—and I’m excited to share that in 2025, I’ll be bringing that idea to life with my very own workshop. I can’t wait to share this creative and reflective practice with others.
Why do vision boards work? They prime you to see opportunities for your desired outcomes and goals. By keeping them visually in your line of sight each day, you’re reminded of what’s important to you. This daily reminder can boost your motivation, help you stay focused, and encourage you to take steps toward achieving your dreams.
As I’ve deepened my own practice, I started researching the origins of vision boards. To my surprise, their roots may trace back to ancient Egypt. Imagine the hieroglyphics etched into the walls of temples and tombs: a powerful combination of art and intention, used to tell stories, document lives, and perhaps even manifest the desires of those who created them.
In many ways, modern vision boards carry that same essence. They’re personal hieroglyphs—symbols of what we hold close, what we aspire to, and what we imagine for ourselves and those we love.
Why Vision Boarding Matters
The act of vision boarding isn’t just about the end product; it’s about the journey. Whether you’re meticulously planning every detail or letting intuition guide your hand, the process can be therapeutic and enlightening. It’s a moment to pause and reflect on what truly matters, to dream without limitations, and to give yourself permission to hope.
Tips for Your Vision Boarding Journey
Start with Intention: Before cutting and pasting, take a moment to reflect on what you want to focus on—whether it’s personal growth, career goals, or simply more joy in your everyday life.
Gather with Others: Sharing the experience with friends can make it even more meaningful. Their insights and encouragement might help you see things in new ways.
Trust the Process: Don’t worry about making it perfect. The beauty of a vision board is in its authenticity.
Keep It Visible: Place your board somewhere you’ll see it often to remind yourself of your goals and dreams.
Closing Thoughts
Vision boarding has become an integral part of my creative and personal journey, blending hope, connection, and creativity in ways I never anticipated. Each board is a testament to the power of intention and the art of possibility.
